--Hey all! I'm going to replace the little-better-than-a-beercan muffler my vehicle was born with, with a quieter non-Chinese model. The trouble is it's going to have to be placed in a less than ideal position to do this. Would you folks mind if a muffler is place out behind a vehicle? It'll be pointed up and the oval form will lay flush with the back of the car. Alternately I could put the muffler under the driveshaft, but this would really reduce ground clearance.

Re: Tailpipe placement questions
Fri, August 12, 2005 - 11:03 AMthe biggest danger (in my mind) is someone inadvertantly leaning up against it and getting burned.... i've been burned by a muffler (motorcycle) and still bear the scars.

Re: Tailpipe placement questions
Fri, August 12, 2005 - 11:49 AMI think the question should be to you, as in do you feel comfortable with it there? Will someone be warning folks to watch out for it, etc?
As far as I know we don't have any hard-and-fast muffler safety rules---it's probably your judgment call.
Dunno if this has been helpful.
Hey, you gonna work a couple of DMV shifts? Know any other MV owners who wanna learn the ins-and-outs of all things DMV? Send 'em my way---we still need some shift coverage---especially on Thu and Fri.
