--Woohoo got my car running this evening! Took nearly a week to get it working. Fortunately I've had a visit from Richard "pesto boy" Castagnola who knows all there is about air cooled engines. At his insistance I took the carb *completely* apart. Turns out there was a plug of something in an unusual place; i.e. *not* in the jets but in the float valve piston. I shot some air thru there and got a satisfying "pop", followed by good movement of the tiny piston between the floats.
--Curiously the very bottom housing on the carb was coated with a green powder; I'm wondering if this might be a combination of '05 Playa dust that got past the original (admittedly lame) air filter, combined with gasoline which subsequently evaporated.. Anyone ever see similar gunk?
